Station 1: Gather Notes on Political Party Organizations
Using my Weebly Website go through the PowerPoint as a group and pick out the most important details. “Teach” the information to each other to ensure everyone understands. Don’t just assume everyone understands it, create a quick 10 questions review guide.
Station 2: Go to CNN.com. Click on the tab labeled “Politics”. Pick one article that interest you. It does not have to be the same as your group members. Read the article, summarize it, tell me why you chose it, and what you have learned from this article.
Station 3: Go to my weebly website. Download the PowerPoint on “The Right to Vote”. Summarize down these key important topics: Requirements to vote, How to Register to vote (Steps), Types of Elections (Include Details), Ways of Voting. Go to http://worditout.com/word-cloud/make-a-new-one Make a Word Cloud on Voting and this PowerPoint, and screen shot the word cloud and put it in your Evernote.
Station 4: Go to the iTunes Store. Go to the Search Bar, Type in CNN Student News. Click on the Red Icon Under “Podcast” entitled CNN Student News. Click on the episode for Nov. 4th. Watch the first 3 and a half Minutes of the video. It will discuss the key elections that took place yesterday. After watching the clip, consider the following questions: Why is this election so important? Why would it matter if the Senate and the House of Representatives turned into complete Republican Control? Do you have any questions about the video? Who won control of the NC Senate Seat in yesterdays election? Did the Senate turn Republican?
Station 5: Go to my weebly website. Download the PowerPoint, Nomination and Electing. With your group answer these questions: What is the electoral college? What are we really voting for? Are Presidents elected by popular vote? Type a brief summary of the Electoral College (Only include the Most important information). Who elects the President? How many votes are needed? What happens if no candidate meets 270 votes? Screenshot the breakdown of electoral votes and add it to your notes. Explain the Nomination Process. Explain the Presidential and VP Candidates. What is a Presidential Debate?

Finish Station 6 : Create a Poster advertising something that was learned yesterday Discussion: Las night for HW you were to write down any questions you had or topics you do not understand. Let’s discuss it. I will fill in the gaps. Politics 101: APPtivity
Creating a Political AD:
Now it is your turn. I want you to create a fictional Political Candidate. Create this character stance on political issues such as education, HealthCare, Taxes, etc. Has this character proposed any crazy news ideas? If so what are they? What office is this character running for? NOW: Pick a fellow classmate who you would like to oppose this fictional candidate. Help them create a stance in which they believe. How are they different from this other candidate? It is your groups responsibility to create a Political ad promoting your candidate. I am not going to give you guidelines or things to include. I want you to be CREATIVE! Use ads you find online, or ones you have seen in the past. It does need to be organized and well put together. You can use ANY video software you would like. (iMovie, etc.) You have the rest of class and can go ANYWHERE to record this video, just get permission from me first. If you have questions…ASK! |

Basic Outline of Notes
Today we will begin a new unit on Law and Justice in America. We will focus on what influenced our laws we have today, and how states are still being influenced by leaders from hundreds of years ago. We will also begin to look at the two types of laws that directly affect citizens. Criminal and Civil.
There will be two activities today. The first is a "New Word" Activity, in which we will learn new words dealing with Criminal/Civil Law and will teach these words to our fellow classmates via movements/actions. The second activity will be a Picture Organizer using the many different types of laws discussed in class, in order to help us understand the words more efficiently. We will create a graphic organizer with each word appearing as a slide. Then add pictures that represent this word, and the definition of this word as well. Include any other hints to this word. Today we will finish up our Creating a Zoo project using Scarcity. We will discuss some key terms and phrases associated with making decisions in every day life.
We will then begin a new section about the American Economy. Key Topics will include: Goods and Services, Factors of Production, Natural Resources, Labor, Capital, Entrepreneur We will then create a word cloud using Tagul.com. You will need to create an account before you can create a word cloud. This word cloud will include words and phrases dealing with the American Economy. (Need at least 15 different words) Paste the Wordcloud in your evernote as well as on padlet. The next section we will begin on is the Economic Sectors.
